If you can’t say it this way…
Psalm 119:16 – I will delight in your decrees…
Psalm 119: 27 – Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds.
Psalm 119: 31 – I cling to your laws…
Psalm 119: 32 – I will pursue your commands
Psalm 119: 72 – Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver.
Psalm 119: 144 Your laws are always right…
This is only a smattering of the love for God’s laws, commands, and decrees in Psalm 119. If we can’t say it this way, that we “Love… cling to… pursue… they’re more valuable than money…always right.” about the Bible – WE’RE READING IT WRONG.
Seriously, if we approach the Bible like its a chore or a list of things we have to accomplish in our day in order to make the preacher happy or mark off a check for our list of to-dos… we’re doing it wrong. “Psalm 119: 129 – Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them!”
How can we ever really fully know God our Creator, Jesus our Savior, or the Holy Spirit our Mediator if we never read their story? It’s like trying to explain the English language to someone while holding a dictionary but never opening it. It’s like trying to tell someone how to use a computer without every turning it on. It’s like holding a brand new iPhone and never once turning it on. It just doesn’t work without diving in and committing.
Fall in love with Scripture again. Spend time in Psalm 119 this week. LOTS of time. This poet was head over heels in love with God’s law. Let’s hope that’s contagious.**
