Love God, Share Jesus…
We’re walking through our mission statement in this mini-series of sermons. Steps one and two are vital to understand before we get to our final piece.
1. Love God. Step one is the foundational relationship we have with our Creator. Do we know Him intimately? Do we even WANT to know Him that well?
I hope so, because He knows us – and He loves us anyway. Our response to this world is shaped on this first level of understanding of the Church’s mission in this world. We are connected to GOD, big G God. We know His Son, and we have His Spirit within us. Yes, that makes us different. Yes, we respond differently to the world and circumstance and disaster. Yes, it makes a difference.
Take step 1. Get to know God passionately – with the same level of passion He has for you.
2. Share Jesus. Step two is the natural response to full embracing of step one. We wont be able to stop sharing what we have. Why? Because we are loved SOOOOO deeply that we can’t help but want someone else to feel that. We share because Jesus was shared. We love because Jesus loved. We do because He did.
Step three is coming next Sunday – with a twist. You’ll see what I mean when you get here! But what is more important than six words on our bulletin, newsletter, and a couple signs is the power these concepts have over the people who LIVE THEM. Are we living the purpose of the Church? Are we participants in God’s Kingdom here on earth? This is not about a building, signs, catchy campaigns (Find Your Spot), or mission statements. This IS about our relationship with a loving, flawless God. Have we responded to Christ?
Because we are loved – we love. Because we’ve been given mercy – we are merciful. Because we are forgiven – we forgive. Because we were served – we serve. Anything less is not Church. Anything less is a club in which we pay our dues by sitting in orderly rows once a week. Our mission is right there in front of us, outside our front doors, in the cubicle next to ours. It is time to Love, Share, and Serve.
