Trust and Confidence in the Mission (should you choose to accept it)
“Your mission, should you choose to accept it…”
Really, did anyone in Mission Impossible ever not accept the mission? It seems like all we were being set up with was: “This is going to be very hard and the fate of the world hangs in the balance, so here’s what this movie needs to accomplish…”
What is your mission? And have you accepted it? Because… thankfully it’s not up to me to save the world from repeated nuclear threat… I would probably pass on the mission and enjoy further reruns of the Office.
Matthew 28:18 – 2018Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NLT)
That is the Church’s mission – and I’m pretty sure we’ve not been given the choice to not accept it.
Have we?
Globally we are a part of something profound: the Mission of the Church. We have been included into the plans God set forth for His kingdom on earth! There is no “should we choose to accept it…” There is no “I’ve done my part, let someone else do it.” There is no “I’m not called to evangelism or missions.”
There is no denying our role in the greater mission of the Church. Are we discipling people? Meaning: are we walking along our neighbors, coworkers, family members, etc… and leading them into the knowledge and relationship with Christ? It is not some fantastical mission that only works in books and movies. It is a practical idea and concept that is quite simple.
And yet we turn it into a scene from Mission Impossible! “Ok, if I set the scene and conversation up this way, maybe I can slip Jesus into the conversation that way.”
OR, we accept the mission by Loving, Sharing, and Serving wherever we are, whenever we are, and however we are. We are kind, generous, and compassionate instead of looking just like the rest of the world. ”
because really, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
