Passion Week Readings and Devotionals

In lieu of a blog post this week, I want to provide a guide for walking toward Easter Sunday. Spend time each day in Scripture and prayer as the moment of ultimate victory over sin and death is approaching!!

Monday: Luke 19:45 – 20:8
Questions to answer: 1). If Jesus were to enter your life in this manner, which tables would he be turning over?  What aspects of your life would Jesus feel the need to evict? Beat him to the task this week and   repent. 2). While we may not say it out loud, we too challenge Jesus’ authority in our lives.  Where have we   tried to take the driver’s seat and not submitted ourselves to Jesus’ calling to holiness?

Tuesday: Luke 20: 1 – 40
Questions to answer: 1). How do we respond to the bold truth of Jesus Christ in our lives? Is it business as usual, or do we find ourselves again and again shaken to the core by the power of God incarnate? 2). What do we withhold from God that we have willingly pledged to others? Money, allegiance,  time, effort? All of these belong to God in service.

Wednesday: Luke 20: 41 – 47; 22: 1 – 6
Questions to answer: 1). Can the world identify us (Christians) clearly by the perfect union of our words actions? 2). What tempted Judas enough to draw him away from Christ? What guardrails must we put up in our in order to not find ourselves anywhere near this level of temptation?

Thursday: John 13:1 – 17; Luke 22: 7 – 30
Questions to answer: 1). Do we put ourselves in a place to selflessly serve? What stops us? 2). As we draw nearer to the Cross and Good Friday, have a period of silence in memory of the body blood of Jesus.

Friday: Between Noon and 3:00 pm, take time to read the account of the Crucifixion in Luke 22:47 – 23:48; John 19: 1 – 37. Quietly reflect on the power of Jesus’ sacrifice.

Saturday: John 19: 38 – 42 As we wait expectantly for the Savior to rise, find yourself in a time of quiet reserve. Feel the anticipation, accept the burden the Apostles carried this day, and join them in prayer for the day(s) to come.

Sunday: Luke 24; John 20. Join your Church family in worship and celebration of the Resurrection that changes EVERYTHING!
